6 Steps to Making Espresso

  • Remove the portafilter
    • Take the portafilter out of the group head
    • Now press one of the brew buttons to rinse the shower screen
  • Knock out!
    • Knock out your coffee puck and wipe the basket clean with a microfiber cloth
  • Dose, weigh & distribute your coffee
    • Put your portafilter under your grinder and dose the coffee into the basket
    • Weigh your dose.
    • Gently tap the sides of the basket until you have an even and flat coffee bed. This will make sure you have an even extraction
  • Tamp
    • Tamp the coffee down evenly using a nice firm tamp. Do not tap or bang the portafilter afterwards, as this can cause water channelling
  • Insert
    • Clean off any excess coffee grounds from the rim of the basket and insert your group handle
  • Brew & serve
    • Get your cup ready under the spouts and then press your brewing button.
    • Your espresso should take between 25–35 seconds to finish pouring
